Lakeside - An a cappella chorus

Arts on the Lake has started “Lakeside”, a mixed a cappella chorus  based at the Art Center. The chorus is learning arrangements in various forms of a cappella music - Folk, jazz, pop, and Barbershop Harmony.

We are well on our way to building a full chorus.  If you would like to join us come on April 17 at 6:30 at Arts on the Lake.  Anyone interested is welcome to come.  Sheet music and learning learning tracks to the first songs we are singing are available. The roots for this new chorus come from the founders' (Robert Bradley, Wynn Gadkar-Wilcox) love of singing. Both have long been immersed in the Barbershop Harmony Society where they met singing in the same chorus. Wilcox, classically trained in voice will be the Musical Director. He has been part of Men’s Chorales, Jazz Choirs Chamber Groups, and Barbershop choruses, quartets and octets. While attending UC Berkeley, he studied Jazz and Blues with Aaron Blumenfeld. Wilcox further developed his love for harmony, serving as vice President of Music with the Mixed Harmony Brigade of New England. In 2023 he attended conductor training at the Barbershop Harmony Society's Harmony University. He also happens to be a professor and co-chair of History at Western Connecticut State University.

Singing various forms of a cappella music - Folk, Jazz, Pop, and Barbershop Harmony, the first songs the chorus will be working on are "Blue skies" and "Fly me to the moon."

All singers are invited and welcome to this first meeting on January 24, 2024 at Arts on the Lake 640 Route 52 in the Town of Kent at 6:30 PM.
