Friends of Classical Music: The Wind Trio

Sunday, September 26, 2021 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm

Coming soon to Arts on the Lake

Please note a location change for this event.

Our second performance in the renewed Friends of Classical Music series, brings a woodwind trio comprised of musicians from the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and the Boston Ballet Orchestra. They all have traveled the world playing with numerous orchestras, symphonies, and countless well known music festivals.

This trio features artists: Anton Rist (clarinet), William Short (bassoon), and Katie Jordan (french horn). They are all members of the Gotham Wind Quintet which "emerged from the pits of opera to bring new depth and vocal expression to the woodwind quintet."

"Anton Rist was recently appointed Principal Clarinet of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. He has performed with the American Ballet Theater, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, the Louisiana Philharmonic, and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. In addition, he served as the Principal Clarinetist of the Princeton and New Haven Symphonies. He has performed at the Verbier, St. Barts, Pacific, Bravo! Vail, and Aspen Music Festivals, and is a founding member of the Montserrat Music Festival in the West Indies."

"William Short was appointed Principal Bassoon of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in 2012. He previously served in the same capacity with the Delaware Symphony Orchestra and has also performed with the Houston Symphony and the Philadelphia Orchestra. William has performed as soloist with the Vermont and Delaware Symphonies, as well as the New York Classical Players. He is a founding member of the Gotham Wind Quintet and is a regular performer with Camerata Pacifica and Dolce Suono chamber music series."

"Katherine Jordan currently serves as fourth horn of the Boston Ballet Orchestra and principal horn of the Sarasota Opera Orchestra. She also held the second horn position with the Sarasota Orchestra from 2014-2017. She has performed with the New Jersey Symphony, New York City Ballet, and Broadway shows including Wicked and Frozen. Other classical engagements have included performances with the Delaware Symphony, The Florida Orchestra, North Carolina Symphony, and the Naples Philharmonic."

They will perform music of a wide array of composers from the influential late 16th century composer Orlando di Lasso to
the works of Purcell, Weber, Kovacs (Bach homage), and Bozza, a 20th century composer who was one of the most prolific composers of chamber music for wind instruments.
