Award-winning film maker Jeremy Workman presents Magical Universe, a documentary about artist Al Carbee's unique work. Jeremy Workman's narrative and documentary films have screened at over 60 film festivals in more than 10 countries. His award-winning shorts and documentaries WHO IS HENRY JAGLOM?, CLAIRE MAKES IT BIG, and ONE TRACK MIND have played at such esteemed film festivals as Tribeca, Hamptons, Slamdance, Melbourne, AFI, and MOMA's Documentary Fortnight.

 

Al Carbee has devoted over two decades to photographing Barbie dolls. Carbee's portraits evoke Hollywood studio images and feature elaborate backdrops built by the artist. "Every Barbie is different," Carbee says. "Every Barbie has a theme. I photograph her so that every situation she's in, she feels comfortable."

Professionally trained in portraiture, lifelong Maine resident Al Carbee devoted over two decades to photographing Barbie dolls. Carbee's portraits evoke Hollywood studio images and feature elaborate backdrops built by the artist. "Every Barbie is different," Carbee says. "Every Barbie has a theme. I photograph her so that every situation she's in, she feels comfortable."
